Mac OS X has had the ability to work seamlessly with scanners using the TWAIN interface since the mid-1990s, though the basic interface has evolved since its introduction. Most scanner manufacturers create a custom interface that runs in the native OS. Fujitsu is no exception, and their ScanSnap series of scanners have worked with Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) since 2010.

Updated Driver
As with any piece of hardware, one of the first things you should do is download updated drivers from Fujitsu (link is in Resources). The installation process is very simple. Make sure the scanner is turned on and connected to your Mac via the USB port, before installing the new drivers. Driver installation is a two-part process that replaces the both the ScanSnap Management package on your computer, and the ABBYY FineReader OCR software on your computer. It may require that you reboot your computer.
ScanSnap Manager Software
Fujitsu provides a management console for handling scanned documents and scanner input, called the ScanSnap Manager. This software launches from the Dock on Mac OS X, and allows you to select options for file size, and output file formats, with output to PDF being the most common. The ScanSnap scanners also come with the ABBYY FineReader Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which converts text in scanned documents to editable formats.
Improving Scan Quality
Fujitsu's scanners work on the same underlying principle that a photocopier does: A light source runs underneath the scanning bed, reflecting light off the document, and capturing the pattern of reflection with a charged coupled device (CCD). Because of this, if the document is printed on thin paper, any text on the opposite side of the paper will 'bleed through' on the scanned image, and require cleanup.
Later Versions of Mac OS & iOS
ScanSnap Manager also works with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion). Fujitsu has compatible downloads available, though Mac OS X 10.7 and 10.8 use the same files. (link is in Resources). Fujitsu's most recent scanner models are able to connect via Wi-Fi to cloud-based services and iOS devices if configured properly. Not all Fujitsu scanners have Wi-Fi access; the ones with an 'X' in the model name are the models with this feature as of early 2013.
